The Length of Stay

Standard packages include a 7 Days /6 Nights fishing package. (Monday-Saturday) Other package length and Lodging options can be arranged.

The Lodging

John, Levi & Jacob Hohl are brothers who own & run Alaska Fly Anglers (AFA). They know the fishing programs & region very well. With the 3 Staff Members to 4 Guest ratio, this intimate experience and attention to detail operation will be more productive and hands on they any other operation out of its kind. Once guests arrive in King Salmon you are met by AFA owner John Hohl, and we arrange a night at a local B&B for a much needed calm before the storm. Early the next morning you depart for the river. During the float AFA utilizes 6 man tents which house only 2 anglers per tent with elevated cots to sleep on.  Meals are served in camp, and range from Ribeye Steaks to Jerk Chicken. We think you will find the food quality is high compared to other rafting operations. We will try to make your trip feel like your right at home.

(Although this float and camp operation is offered, AFA can assist with other lodging options if needed.)

Boats & Equipment

AFA uses 13.5ft Aire Super Pumas to fish and transport clients up and down the rivers, in order to make your trip, a productive trip. While you’re fishing comfortably on the rafts, each angler has their own hi-back swivel chair. AFA also runs a separate 18ft Cataraft to store and transport all the camps gear. (Which Jake manages to breakdown and pass you on the drift to the next camp site.)

The Fishing

Guests come from all over the globe to fish for trophy Rainbow Trout during the peak season. Peak season starts in late spring and  goes thru the fall. Although AFA keeps permits for several river/watersheds, from Lake Clark National Park South. A vast majority of the float trips take place within Katmai National Park. South of Lake Iliamna District, a large number of big Rainbows make Katmai National Park their home.  Other rivers that they float take place on American Creek, Moraine Creek, Alagnak River, Nushagak River, Chilikadrotna River & many other various small rivers within the region. On the back end of the float trip they can accommodate a walk and wade trip with a stay in King Salmon.

How to Get There

All trips start & end in King Salmon, Alaska, which is about 1.5 hour flight south of Anchorage. Many major airlines serve Anchorage from the lower 48. Both Alaska Airlines and PenAir fly into King Salmon.
